Necessary Equipment For Aspiring Boxing Trainees

by Chris Channing

Out of all the sports combined, boxing is one of the most physically demanding because of the large emphasis put on training and endurance. Boxers will very often train rigorously throughout the morning and at nights for weeks on end in preparing for a match. Such workouts are necessary to have incorporated special boxing equipment, however, for best effect.

Of the most basic safety equipment, the mouthpiece and multiple types of hand gear. Hand gear is very important, as knuckles and other locations around the hand will become seriously damaged in no time at all. Thus, padding and a firm grip can help nullify such injuries, which can be devastating when trying succeed in a real boxing match. Mouthpieces, groin guards, and headgear is also quite common for sparring matches.

When a boxer is in the training process, it’s important for the boxer to obtain superior hand eye coordination and speed. To gain expertise in both fields, its best to train with the speed bag. The speed bag is a lightweight type of bag that can move around in often unpredictable locations- meaning coordination and the rule of keeping one’s hands up will both be improved.

One of the easiest ways to get a knockout is to land a perfect body hit. Landing a good body hit will soften up the opponent’s defense enough to land an even more devastating hit to the head. But practicing such things will require the use of a heavy weight bag- which allows the practice of combination moves and body hits. Boxers who are well gifted in training in the heavy weight bag will often have higher knockout rates.

Modern technology has made it possible for the “slam man” punching bag, or what is otherwise called a human shaped bag. This bag is shaped in the form of a human, and is made of synthetic materials that act and react much like a human body would to a punch. This can give the “real feel” when sparring with the bag, meaning training can benefit much more as a result. A slam man may be more expensive on average, but it is well worth the money in learned expertise.

While it might not seem as important, proper clothing is a matter in boxing as well. Boxing clothing should always be flexible enough to allow for quick movements without distracting the boxer. Clothing should also be loose enough to allow for a comfortable fit. To please both necessities, boxers commonly wear boxing shorts in the ring, and accompany the outfit with a boxing hoodie jacket when outside the ring.

Final Thoughts

Boxing equipment can cost quite a bit in the long run, but it is completely necessary for aspiring boxers to make it to the top of their industry. Avid practicing and willpower will get a boxer places in the boxing life, but that is usually only achieved through great boxing equipment. Many sports stores and online retailers will be able to assist boxers in obtaining the right equipment for specific needs.
